Best Dressed 2015

It feels a little ridiculous to be posting a Best Dressed of 2015 this far into January, but this annual post is always a time-consuming one, and it's genuinely taken me this long to finally make a decision, sift through a year's worth of Best Dressed lists, a ridiculously enormous spread sheet, and get it all together.

So, behold: my Best Dressed 2015. While last year's post showed that I'd moved away from monochrome and started to actually like a wide variety of fashion pieces, 2015 highlighted that I'm a fan sleek, sparkly gowns and colourful suits. I'm so predictable it hurts.

BEST DRESSED MAN: EDDIE REDMAYNE

Back on top for the second year running, Eddie Redmayne has once again spent 12 months proving that no other man can quite wear a suit like him. Whether it's a traditional tuxedo courtesy of Gucci, Alexander McQueen or Giorgio Armami or a tartan Valentino number, Redmayne looks incredible. He carries off even the boldest of patterns with ease and consistently looks immaculate. As he's already hitting the awards circuit hard for his turn as transgender artist Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl, we're going to be seeing a lot more of him over the next few months, and thank goodness for that. Red carpets just aren't as stylish without him.

BEST DRESSED WOMEN: AN ENGLISH ROSE, A GLADIATOR AND A PRINCESS

EMILY BLUNT

Oh, I love Emily Blunt. She never seems to put a sartorial foot wrong! While she may have a default pose in front of the cameras, when it comes to fashion she wears such a variety of styles, and experiments with so many beauty looks too, that it sometimes feels impossible to keep up. She's blessed with a figure that suits virtually everything, and as a result it's pretty much impossible for her to turn up to an event looking anything less than beautiful. Her Peter Pilotto dress at the Cannes Sicario photo call (below, middle) is one of my favourite outfits ever. When I grow up, I'd like to be just like Emily, please!

Jonathan Saunders top and skirt // September 19th // San Sebastian International Film Festival, Spain
Peter Pilotto A/W 15 dress with Jimmy Choo shoes // May 19th // Sicario photo call, Cannes
Dior Couture dress with Sophia Webster heels // September 11th // Sicario premiere, Toronto Film Festival

Peter Pilotto dress and Kurt Geiger London heels // February 19th // unite4 humanity event, LA
Michael Kors Collection dress // October 15th // Golden Heart Awards, New York
Elisabetta Franchi jumpsuit with Kurt Geiger heels // June 8th // AIS Freeing Voices Changing Lives Gala, New York
Michael Kors Collection dress // August 13th // Hollywood Foreign Press Association Banquet, California
Christopher Kane dress // February 18th // Barneys and Oxfam benefit dinner, LA
David Koma S/S15 dress // January 7th // Into The Woods premiere, London

Stella McCartney gown // May 19th // Sicario premiere, Cannes
Prada gown // May 4th // Met Ball
Emilio Pucci dress with a Jimmy Choo clutch and Lorraine Schwartz jewels // January 15th // Critics Choice Awards
Custom-made Michael Kors gown // January 11th // Golden Globes

KERRY WASHINGTON

TV's favourite Gladiator works a pattern like no other. Kerry Washington is always a regular in my Best Dressed lists, and let's be honest it's more than obvious why!

Timo Weiland AW15 dress // May 1st // The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences 'For Your Consideration' event, LA
Hrabal Gurung dress // May 14th // An evening with the cast of Scandal
Mary Katrantzou dress // August 4th // Disney ABC Television Group, LA
Marc Jacobs dress, Casadei heels and Harry Winston heels // September 20th // Emmy Awards, LA
Mary Katrantzou dress // January 11th // Golden Globes

LILY JAMES

Whoever styled Lily James for the Cinderella press tour deserves a medal because they single handedly turned the girl from Downton into a real life princess. Lily James handled the insanity that a life-action Disney remake generates like a pro, and spent the entire circus looking nothing but elegant, ladylike and classy. A real highlight was her Elie Saab gown for the LA premiere: if Cinderella was set in 2015 there's no doubt in my mind that this astonishingly stunning gown would have been eerily similar to the Fairy Godmother's creation. Heart eyed emojis were made for that gown.

Gucci dress // February 18th // Cinderella press conference, Milan
Mary Katrantzou S/S15 dress with Jimmy Choo heels // February 13th // Cinderella press conference, Berlin Film Festival
Altuzarra shirt and skirt // March 20th // Cinderella exhibition opening, London
Valentino A/W15 dress // March 7th // Cinderella press conference, Tokyo
Ulyana Sergeenko dress with Christian Louboutin heels // August 11th // BAFTA Celebrates Downton Abbey, London

Prada gown // March 6th // Cinderella premiere, Mexico City
Elie Saab Haute Couture gown // April 7th // Cinderella premiere, Tokyo
custom-made Balenciaga gown // March 19th // Cinderella premiere, London

Elie Saab Haute Couture gown // March 1st // Cinderella premiere, LA

Well that was exhausting! What was your favourite look from 2015? Do you agree with my top 15, and that the Clooneys are the best dressed couple? What did you think of Emma Stone during awards season, Cate Blanchett at Cannes and Eddie Redmayne during the entire year? Do let me know in the comments below!
